Program has an object-oriented design. In order to access the database through the engine, the computer running the client application needs to have the general-purpose libraries BDE installed. An appropriate driver for the given DBMSwill also be helpful. Speaking of keeping system software up to date, Driver Detective can be helpful.

Windows 7 and 8 can be very restrictive towards applications written for the previous versions of Windows. This is the case with the Borland Database Engine (BDE), which is not capable of running in Windows7/8 unless one setting has been changed: A permission for the BDE must be given in the windows registry database.
BV Version 7 was designed for Windows 2000, XP and is a 32bit application. It works under Windows Vista, 7, 8 and 10 and needs to be run in XP Compatibility Mode. Hi Guys,I have Delphi 7 application on BDE 5.01. It works on windows 2000 but it does not work in Windows 7.I have Windows x64 and Office 2010 x32.I downloaded your BDE 5.2 then downloaded MS access engine for 32bit from microsoft. Now I can see my Access DB from BDE no issue there. Also I set my aliases up in BDE. It gives dbierr_Unknown error when it is loading up.Also I use Titan component for Btrieve connection for some reports.Any suggestions...Thanks in advance...

The Borland Database Engine (BDE) is a Windows-based database engine and connectivity software for applications such as Visual dBASE for Windows, Paradox for Windows, IntraBuilder, Borland Delphi and C++Builder. Its database drivers provide access to multiple standard data sources. The Borland Database Engine is object-oriented by design. To connect to different data sources, BDE provides a low-level API which is known as the BDE API. BDE also provides a provision for querying the data in the tables and database with its own querying language.
If they are not supplying an install with the BDE in it, that's weird, but ok... Once you have the bde on the box you are going to need to setup a db alias in it for the software package - you'll need this info. Open the BDE on a working windows 7 box and look at the config, on the left side on the databases tab. There will be CRORxxxxx, CRSS, CRXMLxxxx, DBDEMOS, DefalutDD, IBLocal and something else probably. The something else is your DB alias for Onity. open it up and look at the config, and the path (pointing to db files) and that's what you need to get working on the win 10 box. It all revolves around the IDAPI.CFG file. In the program files x86\Common Files\Borland Shared\BDE\ folder if this is really what you need to get it working.
I have some custom apps with installs I wrote that run on the BDE and still work on Windows 10 so it can be done. I've got the BDE running in a 7 pro hyperv on my surface for emergencies, but i have it on a 10 pro dev laptop also fully functioning. The only thing to date as of 1709 if i recall that is totally broken is the borland database desktop and i gave up trying to rig that up. There's something really deep that got depreciated on that program. 1709 also jacked up something with the networking of the bde as i recall but it can be worked around i think with the .net and .lck paradox files.
Windows 10 Creators Update is breaking Borlands Database Desktop. The program looks like it's starting and them immediately crashes. I've tried this now on 3 machines so far. Borlands Database Desktop and the underlying BDE engine were produced by Borland and have long been deprecated and don't ship with the latest Delphi and RAD Studio products. This has been the case for many years now. I don't think there is any plan to look into this very old technology -- and I work for the company. Eye one software download mac.
